i'm wearing SANDALS. no socks.

it's spring. really, i know, it was march 21. however, in canada spring is signaled by the first day where the temperatures reach double digits. it was 11 today.

i couldn't believe the number of people outside. there is a different appreciation you develop for spring when you've been living through winter. it has new promise, a different feel. people act differently, and spring is so much sweeter. i love it. it's magical.

i love the winter, and part of me is sad to see it go. spring brings new promise.

not to mention a lot of mud. :)

SANDALS.
yum.

ah, spring. mud season. i miss the snow, but am enjoying the warm. i never thought that i would be putting the windows down in my car in temps WELL under 60 degrees F!

i spent the past saturday in collingwood, and on saturday night went to marcos' ski instructor party. the theme was jimmy buffet-esque, an island party. people showed up in sandals, hawaiian shirts, tank tops, shorts. suddenly i understood the need to go to the dominican in february for many people who live in cold climates. i've really enjoyed the winter, and haven't even been itching (too badly, at least) for summer. but seeing those people dressed in such minimal clothing made me want to go lie on a beach in a bikini (nevermind my pasty white skin!)...it was almost as if i had forgotton what summer clothing was like, so used to layering up with jackets, scarves, hats...

looking forward to the disappearance of mud season, though. i missed this last year, as i left for south america on march 21st and didn't return until may...by then, the snow was gone and the mud had dried.

Thursday, March 17

yesterday it was 0 degrees. celcius. as i discovered, 0 degrees in march is considered warm. how, you may ask, did i discover this?

4 people out running in SHORTS.
2 people out walking in FLIP FLOPS.

now, i hate shoes. hate them...can't wait to wear my sandals.

but blue toes just aren't all that appealing!

Saturday, March 12

it's march 12th.

and it's snowing. still. canada, the land of the never-ending winter. i love it, really. i'm kinda dreading spring - melting snow, mud and rain are not nearly as appealing as fluffy white snow! can we just skip to summer?

i am seriously considering an ipod. for christmas i got a 2.5 GB mp3 player, and it was only $150...but now that marcos has spent the time i never would putting all of our music onto his laptop on itunes, having the extra features that the ipod comes with sounds really really nice...and i can get an education discount....now i have to decide blue or silver....and what to engrave on it. (haha, i guess i've already convinced myself that i'm getting one!) i'm thinking 'life is short but sweet for certain'....is that morbid? i like that line...

it's too early. i shouldn't post here before coffee...

yahoo! is 10 today. (wow. that means i've had my aagres@yahoo.com address for 10 years. wild, eh?) a couple of cool things:

they are giving away free ice cream at baskin robbins! woooooo! can't beat free ice cream, even when it's minus 15 with the wind chill outside...

http://birthday.yahoo.com/netrospective/ - an interesting 'netrospective' of net info.

jerry garcia's death was the first yahoo news headline:
Word of the death of musician Jerry Garcia in '95 speeds through the Internet and becomes the first news item posted to the Yahoo! home page. Online news reporting continues to spread, as The New York Times and CNN move to the Web.

on another note: i used to think march was the first month of spring. here in canada, it's different. it is actually the last month of winter. hence over 10 cms of snow on the ground and more forcast for the weekend. let it snow! let it snow! let it snow! (but i'm looking forward to those warm spring days!)

an interesting term i heard by a hip-hop artist on CBC radio yesterday afternoon: hip-hop head. there just is something interesting about hip-hoppers using a term coined from the grateful dead, eh?

there was also a story about our culture and free time. they spoke about the idea of our jobs being so stressful and taking up so much of our time that we don't have time for hobbies and other interests anymore. instead we choose to zone out in front of the TV and 'not think' because we are so taxed from being overworked. people are choosing not to pursue leisurely interests because they don't have the energy.

once again work sucks our lives away.

kinda sad. actually, no. it's really sad.

lots and lots of snow here. it's fabulous. love it. starting to look forward to spring, but i almost like the snow better than the muck and mud that comes with april showers!
