Project Summary:
Clean air, two renowned climbing areas, and exotic wilderness describe this internship site. The San Jacinto Ranger District is located in the San Jacinto Mountains near the town of Idyllwild in Southern California. The San Jacinto Wilderness and Idyllwild areas are popular with Southern Californians seeking to escape the heat and smog in the summer. The San Jacinto Wilderness contains steep mountainous terrain, meadows, and forests as well as two renowned climbing areas and 33 miles of hiking trails. The Pacific Crest crosses the area for approximately 23 miles. Idyllwild is a small resort community and is 75 miles northeast of San Diego. The crew will split time between the backcountry and frontcountry so you'll never get bored. Members will provide routine trail maintenance and removing down trees in the San Jacinto Wilderness and constructing new trail and rehabbing old trail at trailhead of frontcountry trails.

Base Camp Description:
Crew will camp at a primitive backcountry camp with 2 platform tents and/or a campground.
